June 2006

The inaugural meeting of the LFPUG kicked off last night in London EC1 at Play (a nice little cosy bar which we all took over). The meeting consisted of two talks: The first on FMS from Stefan Richter (Flashcomguru) a personal favorite of mine and the second, a well delivered talk on Ruby on Rails from Stuart Eccles which was a real eye opener for most of us who thought “ugh, another boring open source something or another”. I was really impressed with Ruby on Rails in flexibilty, power and ease of use and I will definately be looking at it for database and backend integration for future Flash projects.

But back to the event, as it was (and hopefully will continue to be) held in a private bar effectively, the atmosphere was relaxed and informal. Everyone had a drink in their hand most of the night and questions flowed freely (to freely in some cases ;) - you know who you are, lol). About 30 people turned up and half of them left with prizes ranging from books to vouchers for books (it’s more exciting than it sounds). Both the presenters did an excellent job and Tink has to get kudos for organising an excellent and successful event. Judging by the turn out this will be the beginning of a popular and long running group. If you love Flash and anything to do with it come along. Check out the LFPUG site here.

I wouldn’t normally do this but Spinnaker urgently need 1 or 2 decent actionscript developers to work for them in Picadilly (London) to help finish a major blockbuster movie site for a huge Hollywood client. And they need them TODAY!!! Rates are good, hours are long. In the first instance email or call Andy Marshall on : andy@spinnakerdirect.com or 07866 545 883. No timewasters and no blaggers please - you will need to be a good AS coder as the deadline is very short.
