AOL said it plans to launch on Wednesday one of the biggest free video services on the Internet, serving up vintage shows and short clips backed by online advertisements.

This is excellent, more and more digital media sites are starting to offer their archive programs free (as the BBC did recently - sorry, I can’t remember the URL). The future of digital media across IP is well on the way, woo-hoo! And about time to. How do I know? Because I’ve been doing alot of Flash/video/FMS work over the past year and now I’m working on IPTV systems. This is not just my choice, it’s a reflection of the way the market is moving. The integration of data and digital media into our lives on a unified platform is not far away. You’d be amazed just how much money telcos are pumping into this stuff. And believe me when I tell you, Flash is a fore runner in the UI competition for this presentation platform. There are a few issues that Adobe need to address though if they want to be the clear leader, but more on that in another post.
